No Review List

In order for an EA robot to be reviewed, it must comply with the following quality requirements:

  • It must use a stop loss
  • It must not be martingale
  • It must not be a grid system
  • It must be built with some level of entry and exit logic
  • It must have a reasonable risk to reward ratio

Please find below a list of EAs I will not be testing because they do not comply with my basic quality criteria:

  • Tom’s EA – no stop loss
  • Happy Forex – no stop loss

MegaDroid Review

Summary
I have been testing MegaDroid for some time and have found this to be a decent robot.  However, there are a few things a new MegaDroid user needs to be aware of:

  • The average win is 8 pips, and the average loss is 24 pips.  Therefore, this robot must win at least 75% of trades to breakeven.
  • MegaDroid wins 80% of its trades.
  • Because of the high risk to reward ration you need to be prepared for the worst.  The worst loss I have recorded with MegaDroid was a whopping 81 pip loss (6th September, 2011).

Conclusion
If you choose to trade with MegaDroid, I recommend you never risk more than 2% of your equity.  I recommend you do this using fixed lot sizes equivalent to risking 2% of your equity.

10 Commandments of Automated Trading

  1. Only trade robots that are profitable over the medium to long term, have low draw down, and good risk to reward ratios.
  2. You must exercise sound money management.  It is recommended that you never risk more than 2% of your equity on any one trade (a typical trade should only risk a maximum of 0.5%), and you should not overtrade (if you have multiple positions open, the total of all trades should never be risking more than 5% of your total equity).
  3. Never ever use a robot that does not have a stop loss, ever.
  4. Ensure every robot is thoroughly tested before adding it to your account.  When you start trading a new robot, ensure you use tiny lot sizes or demo accounts only.
  5. Understand your robots / expert advisors.  Learn as much about their trading logic as you can, this will help eliminate bad robots and allow you to trade more effectively the good robots.
  6. Do not use robots that have high draw downs, or are grid or martingale systems.
  7. If a robot starts to lose, always decrease position sizes, never increase them.
  8. Plan your trades, and trade your plan.
  9. Never believe any sales pitch from any vendor.  You must assume that the currency market is completely full of crooks, you may get it wrong sometimes but you will be correct at least 95% of the time.  Trust nothing except your own forward testing results and act accordingly (be prepared to dump the junk software).
  10. You must keep a trading journal – record your good weeks, your bad weeks, your emotions, and lessons learned.
